Desert Island Pictures with Robert Cumming

Lecture | The Melrose Theatre

Thursday 14 April 2011 - 10:30

Robert Cumming asks the million dollar question - which eight pictures would you like to take with you if you were stuck on a desert island? Robert’s number one choice is Las Meniñas by Velásquez, an epic composition that questions reality itself, whilst the other seven will be revealed at the lecture. To end, Robert will ask- which piece of music, book (other than the Bible or the complete works of Shakespeare) and luxury item would you bring along? Come along to contemplate these exciting questions.

Robert Cumming holds degrees from Cambridge University in Art History and Law and has a rich background dedicated to art history. He has worked at the Tate Gallery and then Christie’s, where he founded and ran Christie’s Education from 1978-2000. He is also the author of a number of award winning books and continues to write and lecture on art whilst currently being Professor of Art History at Boston University.
