Visit: Hartlebury Castle
| Hartlebury Castle
17 – 23 March 2011 - 13:30
Two visits to Hartlebury Castle, the mid 13th century fortified manor house which is home to the Bishop of Worcester and the Church Commissioners, will happen on Thursday 17th and Wednesday 23rd March. There will be a guided tour given by the Friends of Hartlebury Castle and the Hurd Library. The itinerary includes a visit to the state rooms, the historic chapel, the Bishop's private rooms, the Prince's bathroom and the Hurd Library. The 18th century library houses volumes (on the original shelves) which once belonged to Alexander Pope, John Dryden and George III.
The Church Commissioners plan to sell Hartlebury Castle in Spring 2012. Great efforts are being made by the Hartlebury Castle Preservation Trust to raise in excess of £2.5 million so that the Castle, its chapel, and nationally important Hurd Library can be saved. Proceeds from this visit will be divided between the Trust and the upkeep of the Library, but any further donations or offers of help to the Trust would be greatly appreciated.
