Guided Tour Strawberry Hill

Tour | Strawberry Hill House

Thursday 3 March 2011 - 10:30 until 12:30

Strawberry Hill is Britain’s finest example of Georgian Gothic Revival architecture and interior decoration and has recently undergone phase one of a spectacular restoration programme. Originally built in 1698 as a modest dwelling for the coachman of the Earl of Bradford, the house was later transformed into a Gothic fantasy villa by Horace Walpole, man of letters and son of England’s first Prime Minister. Between 1747 and 1792 Walpole doubled the building’s size, creating new rooms and adding towers and battlements to fulfil his dream of a mock medieval castle
