Visit to Princethorpe College
| Princethorpe College
Thursday 24 February 2011 - 10:00 until 12:00
Princethorpe College occupies the site of a former Benedictine convent called St Mary's Priory built in the 1830s. The Priory was the first Catholic foundation to be built in England since the Reformation. The tour of the College will begin in the original church (now used by the school as a library) which boasts ornate ceiling decoration, stained glass and statuary. The tour will proceed to the old nuns cloister and a later church which features important examples of Victorian stained glass and a baldacchino by the architect Peter Paul Pugin.
