Visit: 'New Art Now' Exhibition at Birmingham Art Gallery

|

Saturday 5 February 2011 - 10:30 until 12:30

Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery is famous for its extensive historical and Pre-Raphaelite collections but its Contemporary Art collections have also developed at an extraordinary rate over the last ten years.

In 2000 BMAG was one of the 15 major collections in the UK to take part in the Contemporary Art Society Special Collection Scheme. BMAG, with the support of the city council, was then able to purchase 10 contemporary works by British artists. As the collection has grown, BMAG is now home to some exemplary works of contemporary art. BMAG was later chosen to participate in the Art Fund International Scheme and was awarded a £1 million bursary to purchase works of contemporary art by international artists from almost every continent. These works are currently on display at the 'New Art Now' exhibition.

Brendan Flynn will lead a tour of this exhibition, particularly focussing on those works of art purchased through the Art Fund's International Scheme.
