Visit: Christ Church Picture Gallery and Cathedral, Oxford
| Christ Church College
Wednesday 3 November 2010
When General John Guise bequeathed his large art collection to his former college in 1765, the University was able to start offering art education. Further donations have been received over the years by the Gallery and today the collection contains some 300 paintings and nearly 2000 drawings. The Picture Gallery has one of the most important collections of Old Master drawings in the country. The Curator of the Gallery will give a guided tour.
For the Cathedral viewing, a qualified guide will talk about its history and adornments and links to St Frideswide. The Cathedral is not only the College Chapel for Christ Church but also the cathedral church for the Diocese of Oxford. It is a beautiful building with hundreds of years of history.
