Tour: The Ashmolean Museum

Founded in 1683, The Ashmolean was Britain's first public museum. It houses the world's finest group of Raphael drawings, the most substantial collection of pre-Dynastic Egyptian material in Europe, the only significant Minoan collection in the UK, the greatest Anglo-Saxon collections outside the British Museum and the foremost collection of modern Chinese painting in the Western world. It has recently benefited from a major redevelopment enabling many more items to be displayed. The Director of the Museum, Dr. Christopher Brown, has kindly agreed to lead this tour himself.
