Overnight Tour: Art and Architecture in Lisbon

Lisbon is one of the great maritime cities of the world and this tour will take in all aspects of the city starting with the Alfama District which is all that remains of the old city destroyed in the major earthquake of 1755. However, it is at Belem on the Tagus, that the importance of Lisbon in the Age of Discovery is fully displayed. Visit the Belem Tower, the Jeronimos Monastery and the famous National Coach Museum – the finest in the world. Also in Lisbon, visit the Gulbenkian Museum, the Medeiros e Almeida Foundation and the Museum of Ancient Art, which is the main Art Gallery.

Outside the city there will be the chance to see the huge palace at Mafra, two palaces at Sintra, the Royal Palace and the Monserrate Palace, and visit Queluz a charming small Rococo palace which used to be a hunting lodge. On the way back from Mafra, drive along the elegant coastal road through Cascais and Estoril.
