Visit: Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens

| Belsay Hall

Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens, the creation of the Middleton family over more than seven centuries, is always a pleasure to visit. The castle, with its pele tower, dates from the 14th century, and has a Jacobean mansion wing where the family lived until 1817. Belsay Hall, begun in 1807, is a Classical Greek Revival villa, now displayed quite dramatically without furniture. There are also vast gardens with a large variety of plantings.

On this visit there is also chance to see a fascinating exhibition of contemporary art works. Entitled Extraordinary Measures, the exhibition features works, by a number of artists, which play with the contrasts of scale in the various indoor and outdoor settings offered at Belsay.
