'One of the nation's unique civic institutions, the Society of Merchant Venturers story is threaded through the history of Bristol.' In the morning have a private visit to the hall of this ancient livery company which is believed to have roots in the 13th Century. In the afternoon enjoy a tour of Bristol Cathedral famous for the variety and originality of its vaults. A church has stood on this site for over 1000 years; the Abbey of St Augustine was founded in 1140 and it became the Cathedral Church of the Holy and Undivided Trinity in 1542.
