Completed in 1766 for John, 1st Earl Spencer (an ancestor of Diana, Princess of Wales), Spencer House is the only great 18th-century private palace in London to survive intact. Visitors can enjoy a privately led tour of the splendid rooms, which have been returned to their original late 18th-century appearance. A team of experts were brought together for a unique and extremely ambitious 10-year restoration programme that began in 1987. The renovation of the house has prompted the return of key pieces of furniture to their original locations.
