Visit: Churches in South Somerset

| South Somerset

This is a re-run of the 'church crawl' in June led by Patrick and Frances Moule of the Dorset Historic Churches Trust. Somerset is a county which most people would put in the 'super league' of churches -perhaps the towers are the greatest in the country. This guided tour will include the famous Isle Abbots, remote in the levels north of Ilminster but with one of the most beautiful towers of all, complete with medieval sculpture; Curry Rival, as perfect a late-Medieval church as can be imagined, with Medieval and 17th-century tombs; Somerton with its astonishing fretted dragons in the spandrels of the roof and one of the best pieces of Jacobean woodwork in the country; enormous stately Martock with another spectacular roof; and Brympton d'Evercy, an estate church with an amazing range of treasures.
