Chichester and the surrounding area offer a wealth of interesting places to visit. There will be the opportunity for numerous interesting visits during this busy three day trip.
Highlights include the Roman Palace and Gardens at Fishbourne. Discovered by accident in 1960, subsequent excavations dated the site form a Roman military base in AD43 to a sumptuous palace by the end of the 1st century. The Palace houses the largest collection of in-situ mosaic floors in Britain. Following this take a guided tour of Goodwood House where the richly coloured State Apartments offer a unique insight into the history of this Grade I Regency house.
The next day visit Pallant House Gallery, home to one of the best collections of 20th century British art in the world, and take a walking tour of historic Chichester including a visit to the cathedral, a beautiful building begun in 1076.
The following day travel to The Trundle -local viewpoint and Iron Age Fort on the Downs. Then take a guided tour of the Weald and Downland open air museum before heading to Boxgrove Priory, a lovely old church with some of the best Renaissance carvings in any English Church.
