| New College
To celebrate the Bodleian Library's aquisition of the earliest known opera manuscript with a complete English singing translation, this summer New Chamber Opera will present Francesco Cavalli's Erismena at New College, Oxford. This opera was first performed in Venice in 1655, and is one of the most famous of this 17th-century Venetian opera writer. Between 1660 and 1675 the opera was translated into English. The opera is set in the Kingdom of Media on the Caspian Sea.
