Visit: Gorhambury House & St Albans Cathedral

| Gorhambury House & St Albans Cathedral

Gorhambury House is a fine 18th century Palladian house designed by Sir Robert Taylor. Built for the 3rd Viscount Grimston near the site of an Elizabethan house (now ruined), it is still lived in by his descendant, the Earl of Verulam. This tour will take in its notable collection of treasurers, and portraits transferred from the earlier house. Followed by a tour of St Albans Cathedral - a magnificent Norman abbey church built with recycled Roman bricks from the nearby city of Verulanium and containing an important series of 12th & 13th century wall paintings.
