Lecture: 'Botticelli in Florence', by Dr Paula Nuttall (Burchatts Barn)

| Burchatts Barn

This lecture has been organised to coincide with the 500th anniversary of Botticelli’s death (1445-1510). He is one of the best-loved painters of the Florentine Renaissance and the creator of outstanding images which reflect his world. In this lecture we look at Florence through his paintings, beginning with the Medici, for whom he painted classically-inspired works such as The Birth of Venus and Primavera. In later life Botticelli, like many Florentines, adopted the religious ideals of Savonarola, which are expressed in paintings such as the Mystic Nativity.
