This ever-popular event offers members an opportunity to visit the stores of the Government Art Collection. Founded in 1898, the collection holds about 12,000 works of art in a variety of media, by artists ranging from Van Dyck and Gainsborough to Goldsworthy and Warhol. Works from the collection are lent for display in major government buildings in the UK and around the world, promoting British creativity in the visual arts.
