raconteur, will talk about Sir John Moore of Corunna. This year is the 200th anniversary of the death of Sir John, who died commanding his troops at Corunna. It is often said that this Scotsman was a greater General than Wellington. The lecture describes his formative years and the influences that came to make him 'the best trainer of troops that the Army had ever seen' and how his legacy endures in the Modern Army. This man was worthy to be painted by Sir Thomas Lawrence and the portrait now hangs in the National Gallery.
