Lecture by Charlotte Rostek: The Story of Dumfries House

Curator of Dumfries House, Charlotte Rostek, will give an afternoon lecture about the story of Dumfries House and its contents. This fascinating 18th-century time capsule holds one of the most important furntiure collections in the world by Thomas Chippendale and a group of Scottish 'wrights'. Chippendale's magnificent late George II parcel-gilt Padouk and gilded limewood breakfront bookcase c1759, is considered possibly the master's masterpiece that launched his careeer as the Shakespeare of English furniture. The Ayrshire house was built by the Adam brothers (1754-1759) and exudes the charm and chastity of a largely undisturbed private home.
