Lecture by Christopher Lloyd: 'A History of the Royal Collection: Paintings, Politics and Connoisseurs'

| Pierrepont Hall

Join Christopher Lloyd, Art Fund Trustee and Former Surveyor of the Queen's Pictures, for a lecture tracing the history of the paintings in the Royal Collection, highlighting the roles of Charles I, George III, George IV and Queen Victoria as connoisseurs. Although in recent years conscientious efforts have been made to bring the Royal Collection more into the public domain, the paintings, many of them masterpieces, remain relatively unknown as though trapped within an impenetrable historical maze. Consideration is given in this lecture as to how this situation has arisen and how a greater and more immediate relevance could and should be found in modern times for the paintings in the Royal Collection.
