Visit to Coxwold and Newburgh Priory

| Coxwold and Newburgh Priory

Start with coffee and a scone in Coxwold Village Hall. Then go up the hill to St. Michael’s Church with its magnificent Bellasis family monuments before a guided tour of Shandy Hall, the eighteenth century home of Lawrence Sterne. There will be time for an exploration of the gardens and a visit to the current exhibition in the Granary before returning to the Village Hall for a two-course lunch prepared by the committee.

After lunch drive the short distance to Newburgh Priory for a guided tour by the owners, Sir George and Lady Wombwell. This remarkable house was originally a priory and has remained in the hands of the same family since the dissolution of the monasteries.
