Matthew Boulton Bicentenary Celebration: Visit to Soho House and the Gas Hall, Birmingham Musuem and Art Gallery
Matthew Boulton worked with architects James and Samuel Wyatt and furniture maker James Newton to create a fashionable and comfortable home. Carefully restored, Soho House, an elegant Georgian property, includes many items of Boulton's own furniture. It also reflects the inventiveness of its owner. It had an early form of central heating, as well as a steam bath and flushing lavatories. There will be an introductory talk by the Curator, Clare Parsons.
In the afternoon the major exhibition focussing on Matthew Boulton's life and work will be visited in the Gas Hall, again with a short introductory talk. This will be a unique opportunity to see Boulton-related objects from many sources.
