Visit to Monaughty House and Presteigne
| Monaughty House
Monaughty House was built in about 1565 by James Price, a prominent local landowner. During its history the house has hardly been altered and therefore remains a perfect example of a large Elizabethan manor house, without any modern amenities and complete with all its original features. Work has been going on for some years now to put Monaughty back into a sound structural condition and to restore its formal gardens, which had virtually disappeared.
A guided tour of the house and garden will be followed by a walk around the historic houses of Presteigne with guide Duncan James, a local building historian who specialises in the study of vernacular architecture. The walk finishes at the Judge's lodgings.
