Visit to Broomhall, Fife

| Broomhall

The original 18th century house was extended for the seventh Earl at the end of the century by Thomas Harrison. Twelve architects then submitted their designs for the North front and wings; but the expense of acquiring and shipping the Parthenon Marbles caused him to postpone further work on the house and the new North front and wings were completed only in the 1860s and 1870s by the Glasgow firm of Thomson and Wilson.
