Lecture: L. S. Lowry - A Visionary Artist

| Study Centre of the Snowdonia National Park

Lowry remains one of Britain's most popular painters - and most controversial. Perhaps the very familiarity of his work has stopped us looking as closely as we should at this extraordinary man's unique achievement. Far from being a painter of nostalgic, sentimental images of the industrial north-west, Lowry was a painter who created a tough, stark and compelling series of works, cityscapes, landscapes, startling figure paintings and haunting seascapes.

The lecture is given by Michael Howard, Programme Leader for the School of the History of Art and Design, Manchester Metropolitan University. Michael is a practicing artist, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist, author and leading authority on L. S. Lowry.
