Lecture: 'Art of the Industrial Revolution' - a lecture by Andrew Spira

| Yehudi Menuhin School

The Industrial Revolution radically changed the way we live. Powerfully romanticised by artists such as Joseph Wright of Derby and JMW Turner, it also had an impact on the decorative arts, bringing objects previously associated with the nobility within reach of an ever-growing middle class. New techniques reduced the cost of manufacturing products, leading to the evolution of shops and entrepreneurs, and effectively ushering in the consumer age.
