Visit: Minterne House and Higher Melcombe (Dorset)
10.30am Minterne (near Dorchester)
the home of the Lord Digby. The house has been the home of
the Churchill and Digby families for 350 years but the present house is
Edwardian. The gardens were landscaped in the 18th
century and are famous particularly for their rhododendrons and azaleas which
should be at their peak for our visit. We shall tour the
house and gardens and also have a sandwich lunch in the house.
Higher Melcombe, nr Dorchester (Mr Michael Woodhouse).
The house today is the surviving wing of a much larger house built around
1570 and now being restored by the present owners. We shall
tour the house and gardens and have tea.
