Most large towns in mediaeval England had city companies and while many outside London have diminished those in the capital have flourished and a focus for the City’s confidence and munificence. The Drapers’ and the Vintners’ are two of the twelve great City of London Livery Companies. They have each invited The Art Fund to visit and view their collections of exquisite paintings and some of their historic plate. There will also be a visit to one of the finest City churches, St James Garlickhythe.
