| Government Art Collection

This ever-popular members’ event gives you the opportunity to visit the stores of the Government Art Collection. Founded in 1898, the collection holds about 12,000 works of art in a variety of media, primarily by British artists, ranging from 18th-century masters, such as Thomas Gainsborough, to well-known figures of contemporary art, like Damien Hirst. Works from the collection are lent for display in major government buildings in the UK and around the world, helping to promote Britain’s creativity in the visual arts.
