Lecture: Vietnamese Painting and French Connection

| Burchatts Barn

A lecture by Ann Peerless on the unusual subject of the origins and development of modern painting and lacquer painting in Vietnam.

Under French colonial rule a number of Vietnamese artists were sent to Paris to study at the Ecole des Beaux Arts. Paris at this time was the centre of the art world and the students were influenced by the work of French classicists, the Impressionists and Post Impressionists.

Ann will consider how the Vietnamese artists used these influences to create a way of painting which is very much their own.
