Woburn Abbey

| Woburn Abbey

We have arranged a special private visit to this great mansion. The Russells, Dukes of Bedford, have played an important part in politics and society over the past 400 years. The ruined Cistercian abbey was willed to the first Earl of Bedford by Henry VIII, since when it has been transformed by such notable architects as de Cauz, an associate of Inigo Jones, Henry Flitcroft and Henry Holland.

The tour will include a visit to the Holland library, rarely open to the public. We will also look at the fantastic works of art together with fine pieces of 18th century porcelain, silver and furniture.

The morning will begin at 10am with coffee in the Duchess's Tea Room, followed by a private tour of the house. After lunch at 1pm we will visit the pretty 18th century village of Woburn and a local historian will give a short talk on the history of the village.
