The Strathclyde Art Fund Christmas Event

A chance for Art Fund members to have a private view of the exhibition 'Impressionism and Scotland' in the presence of the exhibition curator, Dr Frances Fowle.

The evening will begin in Kelvingrove's lecture theatre with Dr Fowle - curator at the National Gallery of Scotland and lecturer at the University of Edinburgh - giving a marvellous insight into the exhibition. 'Impressionism and Scotland' is a fascinating exploration of the relationship between French, Dutch and Scottish artists in the later 19th and early 20th centuries.

Glasgow's showing of the exhibition - a small and focussed version of Edinburgh's Festival show - will compare and contrast particular paintings, placing, for example, a Crawhall beside a Degas and a Fergusson beside a Cezanne. The exhibition also explores how this developed: the role of exhibitions, the vital work of the art dealers and the importance of Scottish collectors.

Following the lecture will be the exclusive viewing of the exhibition. Wine and canapes will be served in the restaurant and there will also be special chance to buy autographed books by Dr Fowle.
