Lecture - 'The Renaissance Art Market' by Dr James Lindow
| Burchatts Barn
This lecture assesses the extent to which an art market in the modern sense of the term existed in the Renaissance. The market is analysed from both the perspective of supply (artists) and demand (patron). The purchase and distribution of art is examined; as well as the success artists such a as Leonardo, Michelangelo and Raphael had in stimulating demand for their work while raising themselves into the realm of celebrity status.
The Surrey lecture series is kindly sponsored by AXA Art and SmithGreenfield.
