Lecture: 'Dumfries House' by Jonathan Marsden

| Digby Memorial Church Hall

Jonathan Marsden, Deputy Surveyor of The Queen’s Works of Art, and Trustee of the Art Fund was one of the first Art Fund Trustees to witness the outstanding interiors of Dumfries House, built for William Crichton-Dalrymple, 5th Earl of Dumfries, by the Adam brothers between 1754 and 1760. He will explain why it was so important to save this house which in his own words ‘seems almost to have remained in the condition in which it was delivered’, how it was achieved, and show us some of the unique furniture by Chippendale and three outstanding Scottish furniture makers, and other treasures.
