Visit: Dilston Castle and Chapel

| Dilston Castle

Dilston Castle is a fortified tower house built in 1417. The chapel was built c.1616, allegedly with money raised for financing the Gunpowder Plot. The visit begins with a lecture by Frances Dickinson entitled The Radcliffes of Dilston in Fact and Folklore - a story of ambition, intrigue, rebellion, tragedy and the lost Jacobite cause. After lunch there will be a guided tour of the castle and chapel, with visits to the Devil's Water and the archaelogical dig taking place on the site of the Jacobean manor house.
