Luscombe and Bickham House

| Luscombe

Luscombe, near Totnes, set in an Idyllic spot (landscaped by Repton) at the end of long sheltered combe, was built by the Hoare banking family in 1800 (architect, John Nash). A modest sized castellated mansion with octagonal tower and gothic windows and entrances. Service wing and walled coarts behind. Simple neo-classical interior, pedestals with busts, fine fireplaces and staircase etc. All of a piece, beautifully cared for and still owned by a member of the Hoare family who will show us round. Bickham, nearer Exeter, is set it its' own park and lovely garden, early 18th century with 19th century additions including a colonnaded veranda on two sides. A house of immense charm, contents of great interest and welcoming owners who will provide us with tea. In short, two special, rarely visited houses.
