Visit to Minterne and Sherborne Castle

| Minterne

A requested repeat from last year. Minterne was built in 1905 (architect L. Stokes) by a branch of the Digby family rich in naval connections. Tapestries and maritime pictures of particular interest. After coffee on arrival we will be shown round by Lord Digby and before leaving there will be time to visit the garden. At Sherbourne Castle a guided tour by the archivist Ann Smith. It has been in the hands of the Digby family since 1617, hence 400 years worth of accumulated contents of great variety and quality, particularly the furniture. The park is by Capability Brown.
