Lecture: History of Dress in Italian Renaissance Painting

This lecture looks at how the portrayal of clothing in Renaissance art reflected contemporary custom and convention. Evidence from documents, diaries and literature, as well as paintings, will be used to illuminate the significant social role of dress and textiles in 15th- and early 16th-century Italy. Jane Bridgeman is Associate Lecturer in Fashion History and Theory at the University of the Arts, London.
