Gods, Goddesses and Guardians: Art of the Hindu World

George Michell's lecture on Hindu art will concentrate on the Indian tradition. It will illustrate the major Hindu gods and goddesses worshipped in temples. He will also discuss several of the Hindu legends and myths that are sculpted or painted on temple walls, and the subject of vividly coloured miniature paintings and woven textiles. George Michell has researched extensively in different parts of India, including the Hindu imperial site of Hampi-Vijanyanagara. He is the author of Hindu Art and Architecture (Thames and Hudson, London).
