Judaic imagery and concepts lie at the very heart of
Western Tradition in art through the influence of Christianity. Nevertheless,
Jewish art is both distinctive and radical, and has influenced the Modern
Movement in art more than is commonly realised. Artist and former head of
Sotheby's Judaica Department, David Breuer-Weil will chart the significance and
ramifications of Jewish symbols, discussing examples from over 2000 years of
history, from ancient times to the present day. He will also discuss how some of
these motifs may continue to determine powerful aspects of the future of art.
