National Museum of the Royal Navy, Portsmouth
Hampshire, PO1 3NH
One of the country's leading maritime museums, devoted to the story of the men and women of the Royal Navy.
Award-winning permanent galleries cover Nelson, his navy, HMS Victory and the Battle of Trafalgar. Highlights include the McCarthy Collection of objects that belonged to Nelson and Emma Hamilton and their daughter Horatia, WL Wyllie's Panorama of Trafalgar and an unrivalled collection of warship figureheads.
The Age of Sail display, housed in an 18th-century storehouse, reveals a balanced view of what life was like in the Sailing Navy through hands-on interactive exhibits.
In 2014 a new gallery opened with an additional permanent display, HMS: Hear My Story, which recounts the experiences of over 1,000 men and women in the Royal Navy over 100 years.
The museum complements a visit to the other attractions in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.
