Library of Birmingham

Birmingham Central Library is housed in an exciting new building in Centenary Square.

Opened by Malala Yousafzai in September 2013, the new venue includes a state-of-the-art gallery space, a BFI Mediatheque that provides free access to the National Film Archive, an outdoor amphitheatre and other informal performance spaces, a recording studio, and dedicated spaces for children and teenagers.

Permanent collections

The library holds the city's collections of archives, photography and rare books, including six which have been designated as being of national and international importance.
