Ellys Manor House

A Tudor wool merchant's house built in the Flemish style, Ellys Manor House is an architectural gem.

The house has remained little altered since the early 16th century, retaining many original features. Its collection of early 16th-century wall paintings is one of the most complete, extensive and important domestic decorations of its time in the country.

Permanent collections

The wall paintings in the upper rooms of Ellys Manor House were described by architectural historian Sir Nikolaur Pevsner as 'a rare English interpretation of French verdure tapestries.' Dating to around 1500 and reflecting Northern Renaissance style, the paintings are of outstanding historical interest.
