Creative Foundation

Kent, CT20 1BN

Actually a charity rather than a museum, the Creative Foundation transformed the old town of Folkestone into a Creative Quarter.

With a remit to restore vitality and enterprise to the area of Folkestone in Kent, the charity acquired 90 buildings in the old town and recruited a range of creative businesses and artists as tenants.

The Creative Foundation also commissioned and operates a performing arts centre – Quarterhouse – which hosts many of the festivals and arts events that are organised year-round by the Creative Foundation and its partners.

The Folkestone Triennial and the Folkestone Book Festival are key elements of the Creative Foundation's arts programme, while a permanent public collection, Artworks, was commissioned by the charity and can be found in public spaces all over the town.

In advance of the 2017 Folkestone Triennial, Creative Foundation used our Art Happens crowdfunding platform to raise £15,000 to cover the town's streets and landmarks with Bob and Roberta Smith’s declaration that FOLKESTONE IS AN ART SCHOOL.
