ARTIST ROOMS: Anselm Kiefer

Herbert Art Gallery & Museum

19 October 2018 – 27 January 2019

Explore the work of one of Germany's most significant post-war artists, Anselm Kiefer.

Anselm Kiefer, Heroische Sinnbilder [Heroic Symbols], 1969

Drawn from the ARTIST ROOMS collection, this exhibition presents work by German artist Anselm Kiefer, who explores themes of national identity and collective memory, often addressing the legacy of Germany after the Second World War.

The display features works spanning 40 years of the artist’s career, all characterised by an unflinching willingness to confront taboo and controversial issues from recent history.

This is the Herbert’s first collaboration with ARTIST ROOMS, ahead of Coventry's year-long celebration as UK City of Culture in 2021.
