Capturing her sitter’s interiority on canvas, Scottish artist Victoria Crowe sets herself apart as an exceptional portrait painter – as this exhibition demonstrates.
Through her portraiture, distinguished Scottish artist Victoria Crowe sets out to do more than record a person’s outward appearance, representing instead something of their inner life.
In her arresting paintings of sitters from across the worlds of art and science – including pioneering medical scientist Dame Janet Vaughan, poet Kathleen Raine and psychiatrist RD Laing – Crowe has captured each individual’s inner world of ideas and dreams, their experiences and preoccupations.
This exhibition of portraits illustrates the artist’s exceptional skill, as well as tracing Crowe’s professional and personal history through own her artistic journey.
