John Piper’s Brighton Aquatints
12 December 2017 – 3 June 2018
Published just after the outbreak of World War II, John Piper’s Brighton Aquatints book proved to be pivotal in his artistic development – and is explored in detail in this exhibition.
A slim volume of landscape and architectural views of Brighton, John Piper’s Brighton Aquatints was, despite the nostalgia of its subject and style, an indicator of the artist’s awareness of avant-garde art.
Curated by architectural and design historian Alan Powers, this display explores the collection through related books, letters, sketches, prints and designs and coincides with the publication of a new edition of the book.
