Marking the 50th anniversary of the partial decriminalisation of homosexual acts, this major exhibition draws from the collections of both the Arts Council and the Walker Gallery.

John Walter, From Sodomy to Intimacy, 2015

The show brings together a diverse range of artists who have all used their work to explore sexuality and gender identity since 1967, when the law in England and Wales was changed.

Drawing on the findings of over two years of research by the gallery into LGBTQ history and visual culture, it reveals hidden queer histories and institutional blind spots that are also explored through a connected programme of events and performances.

Featured artists include David Hockney, Steve McQueen, LINDER, James Richards and Sarah Lucas, among work from many others, as well as new acquisitions to the Walker's collection, funded through our New Collecting Awards scheme.
