Tracey Emin’s notorious installation My Bed is placed in dialogue with a collection of JMW Turner's paintings in this unusual display.
Visitors can contemplate the relationship between Emin's bed and Turner's skies and seascapes in this exhibition pairing the two artists.
Giving a snapshot of Emin's life after a traumatic relationship breakdown, My Bed was originally made in the artist's Waterloo flat in 1998 and included in her Turner Prize exhibition in 1999. It offers ‘an unconventional and uncompromising self-portrait through objects’, in which the artist herself is absent.
Emin has chosen a number of works by Turner from the Tate collection to be displayed alongside My Bed. Are Turner's images the dreams – or nightmares – of the bed's inhabitant? Do they offer a view onto a turbulent world outside the bedroom? Audiences will have their own interpretations.
