Romance & Rebellion: The Art of the Victorians
6 May – 17 September 2017
Free to all
Featuring work by Turner, Burne-Jones and Whistler, this exhibition explores the stylistic variations of the Victorian era.
Charting the period chronologically, Romance & Rebellion explores how many different styles developed and flourished alongside each other between 1837 and 1901.
Works from artists including Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Aubrey Beardsley and Frederic Lord Leighton are taken from the Cecil Higgins Art Gallery Collection to offer a view on a period of extremes, from the Pre-Raphaelites to the Aesthetes and beyond.
A programme of gallery tours accompanies the exhibition, led by curator Victoria Partridge and Tate tour guide Andrew Rodgers.
